Moves in the city and the townships that carry a Lancaster address, by a licensed Pennsylvania carrier a short run down Route 283.
Lancaster is the county seat and one of the oldest inland cities in the country. In the city that means brick rowhouses on narrow, often one-way streets, apartments over storefronts downtown, and newer buildings in the Northwest Corridor near the ballpark. Most Lancaster mailing addresses are in the townships around it, Manheim, Lancaster, East and West Lampeter and East Hempfield, where the housing is suburban and the driveways are easier. Every quote starts with the building and the street.
We come from Mechanicsburg, about an hour away on PA 283 and US 30. Most of the Lancaster County moves in our records so far have run along that corridor, Elizabethtown, Mount Joy and Marietta, and Lancaster city is the natural end of the same lane. Licensed in Pennsylvania (PUC A-8920056) and for interstate moves (U.S. DOT No. 3558337, MC 1194208; see our FMCSA record).
The three kinds of Lancaster move we plan for most.
City blocks in Cabbage Hill, the West End and around Musser Park are rowhouses: steep stairs, tight turns, and a front door a few feet from the curb. We measure the big pieces against the stairwell before moving day.
Lancaster County has one of the densest clusters of retirement communities in the state: Willow Valley, Brethren Village, Landis Homes, Homestead Village, Moravian Manor, Masonic Village and more. Moves into them run on the community’s schedule, with elevator and dock reservations, and we plan to it.
North of the city in Manheim Township and out toward Landisville, Lampeter and Millersville, it is single-family homes and townhouses: garages, basements and a straightforward load.
Roads, market days and districts that shape moves here.
Penn Square’s Central Market has operated since 1730, in the current brick market house since 1889, on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Market mornings fill the blocks around it; a downtown move goes smoother on the other days.
The Stormers’ ballpark on North Prince Street, Penn Medicine Park (Clipper Magazine Stadium until 2025), anchors the Northwest Corridor’s apartments and lofts. On game nights the streets around it park up early.
US 30 wraps the north side, US 222 runs through on its way from Reading to the Maryland line, and PA 283 is the straight shot to Harrisburg. Lititz Pike, Manheim Pike and Oregon Pike feed the north end; Columbia Avenue heads west to York.
The Keystone Line puts Philadelphia about an hour from the Lancaster Amtrak station on McGovern Avenue. Franklin & Marshall, Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology, Lancaster Bible College and, just southwest, Millersville University turn over every May and August.
The School District of Lancaster serves the city. Most township addresses with a Lancaster ZIP are in Manheim Township, Hempfield, Conestoga Valley, Lampeter-Strasburg or Penn Manor, so check by street.
What we do for people moving in, out of and around Lancaster.
Rowhouses, apartments and township homes, with the stairs, one-way streets and parking planned before the truck arrives.
Into Willow Valley, Brethren Village and the county’s other communities, timed to the community’s move-in calendar.
Downtown and Manheim Pike offices moved after hours or over a weekend when that keeps you open.
The questions we hear most about moves here.
Yes. For a non-metered street, the City’s Bureau of Police provides courtesy no-parking signs, and they need to go up at least 48 hours ahead. Metered spaces are reserved through the Lancaster Parking Authority. Tell us your block and we’ll tell you which one applies.
Yes. Those moves run on the community’s calendar: a reserved elevator, a loading area and a move-in window. Give us the date they assign and we’ll build the day around it.
Yes. Manheim Township, Lancaster Township, East and West Lampeter, East Hempfield, Manor and the rest of the 17601 to 17603 area are all covered.
