Moves in the White Rose City and the townships around it, about 35 minutes down I-83 from our Mechanicsburg base.
York is the county seat and, for nine months in 1777 and 1778, was the meeting place of the Continental Congress. The city itself is rowhouses and alleys: the Avenues, Olde Towne East, the Northwest Triangle, South George Street. A York mailing address stretches well beyond it into Spring Garden, Springettsbury, West Manchester, Manchester and York townships, where the houses have driveways and the moves go faster. Every quote starts with the building and the street.
York is one of the most frequent pins on our job map outside the Harrisburg area, with moves on record in five of the city’s ZIP codes and in Dover, Manchester, Mount Wolf and York Haven. Harrisburg to York, or the other way, is a regular trip for us. Licensed in Pennsylvania (PUC A-8920056) and for interstate moves (U.S. DOT No. 3558337, MC 1194208; see our FMCSA record).
The three kinds of York move we plan for most.
Narrow fronts, three stories, and an alley in back. We decide whether the truck loads from the street or the alley before the crew rolls, and plan the long carry when it is neither.
Springettsbury, Spring Garden and West Manchester are mostly single-family homes and townhouses with driveways: straightforward loads with more in the garage than anyone remembers.
York College, Penn State York and WellSpan York Hospital keep a steady churn of one- and two-bedroom moves, many of them in May, July and August.
Roads, market days and dates that shape moves here.
York’s Central Market House at Philadelphia and Beaver streets has sold produce since 1888, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Market mornings make the surrounding blocks tight for a truck.
I-83 runs up the east side of the city straight to Harrisburg and down to Baltimore; US 30 crosses the north end toward Lancaster one way and Gettysburg the other. Market Street (PA 462) is the old Lincoln Highway through downtown.
The York State Fair at the York Expo Center, dating to 1765, fills late July, and the Expo Center hosts shows most weekends. Carlisle Avenue and Richland Avenue back up when it does.
The York Revolution play at WellSpan Park in the Northwest Triangle; the Harley-Davidson plant off US 30 in Springettsbury is the landmark everyone uses for directions on the east side.
The School District of the City of York covers the city. York addresses outside it fall into York Suburban, Central York, West York, Dallastown or another district, so check by street.
What we do for people moving in, out of and around York.
Rowhouses, apartments and township homes, with the alleys, stairs and parking planned before the truck arrives.
Downtown and Route 30 corridor offices moved after hours or over a weekend when that keeps you open.
York College and Penn State York move-ins, move-outs and off-campus apartments, in May, July and August.
The questions we hear most about moves here.
Often yes, but many city blocks are one-way with parking on both sides. If we need reserved curb space, the city can post temporary no-parking signs. Tell us your block and we’ll plan loading from the street, the alley or a nearby lot.
Yes. It is about 25 miles on I-83 and one of our regular lanes, usually loaded and delivered the same day.
Yes. Spring Garden, Springettsbury, West Manchester, Manchester, York Township and the rest of the 17401 to 17408 area are all covered.
